Gangway collapse at HMS Belfast
When the gangway collapsed at HMS Belfast on the River Thames in London there could have been a disaster. It could have become a major PR disaster too. Thankfully, there were no injuries and several social media channels swiftly stepped into the breach including London Fire Brigade, Imperial War Museums and London Ambulance. This case study from Ben Proctor of the likeaword consultancy shows how openness and transparency via digital channels can defuse the potential for panic.
We’ve just received news that @TowerRNLI are searching the Thames after the boarding ramp to HMS Belfast collapsed
We understand 3 workmen were on the ramp at the time but managed to scramble to safety. HMS Belfast is being evacuated.
It is not believed that anyone is in the water but #RNLI crew are searching the Thames as a precaution.
